Here's how to stitch up your own Bohemian style headband, great for any wedding gift.
- Styled ribbon. The ribbon I used was 1" wide. You could also use two thinner ribbons or an even thicker ribbon - you're the designer, you choose! Check out the ribbons, trims, home dec sections of your local sewing shops to find different materials you can use as headbands. I also had fun playing with gimp for double stranded headbands.
5/8" solid color trim.
- Coordinating thread.
Step 1: Cut your ribbon 17" long.
Step 2: Cut a piece of elastic 4" long.
Step 3: Cut your trim 3x the width of your ribbon so you can fold-over both sides. **Note - to prevent fraying burn each end of your trim.
Step 4: Place your ribbon on one long side of your trim. Place your elastic on the other side. The ends should overlap the center of your trim slightly.
Step 5: Fold over one side of your trim.
Step 6: Fold over the other side of your trim.
Step 7: Pin everything together. You can pin the ribbon to the trim and the elastic to the trim separately to prevent shifting.
Step 8: Stitch the ribbon to the trim. Make sure your thread matches your trim so you won't see it.
Step 9: Stitch the elastic to the trim.
Step 10: Repeat Steps 3 - 9 for the other side of the headband. At Step 7 try on your headband (careful of the pins!) make sure it fits the way you want it to. Now is the time to adjust your elastic placement to make it fit tighter or looser.
